About Us

Auden House is a large detached Edwardian property that has been adapted and extended over the years to provide accommodation for up to 24 older people with all areas accessible by wheelchair. The home is situated in a residential area of Audenshaw and is in private ownership.

Our Aims

The philosophy of Auden House is to meet the needs and promote the independence and quality of life of each individual resident. Whilst living in our protected and caring environment, the dignity, integrity, and self-esteem of each person is respected. All our residents are viewed as intelligent individuals in their tender years, and we aim to “fulfil their golden years“.

We actively encourage our residents and their families and friends to engage in our activities and to help us in our drive for continuous improvement. We hold resident and relative meetings and carry out surveys regularly, and we are always receptive to suggestions for how we can improve any aspect of our service; such as ideas for activities, menu options, trips out.

Our Staff

Our qualified manager is fully supported by a senior team, together with experienced care assistants and catering staff fully trained to a high standard. Qualifications include:

  • Registered Managers Award
  • NVQ5 qualified deputy manager
  • NVQ3 & NVQ5 qualified senior care assistants
  • NVQ2 (Health & Social Care) qualified care assistants
  • Food Hygiene
  • First Aid

Accommodation

Rooms are furnished to a high standard, but residents are able to bring any personal items of furniture if desired to retain that home from home feeling. Each room is lockable and also has a lockable piece of furniture, a T.V. point, nurse call system, and some have a private telephone point which can be connected on request.

Facilities

Located in pleasant surroundings with landscaped gardens and patio area, the home is a two-storey building with a 5-person lift giving easy access to all rooms. There is a wet room on each floor and a hoist assisted bathroom on the first floor. All areas of the home are accessible by wheelchair. There are two T.V. lounges, a conservatory and a quiet sitting area. To maximise our safety, we have 24h CCTV cameras recording our public areas, lounges, dining room, corridors and external doors. There are no cameras in private areas, such as resident bedrooms, toilets and bathrooms.

We are a non-smoking home.

Food

We acknowledge that meals are an important and enjoyable part of a resident’s stay with us. As such our residents have a choice of menu, which includes a variety of home cooked foods prepared in our commercial standard, stainless steel kitchen. We have recently introduced a 28-day menu which ensures a balanced diet and great variety of meals are offered. Whilst we do have a pre-planned menu, every resident is consulted about their personal diet and preferences and special diets are accommodated. For several years we have been awarded the Tameside Environmental Services Clean Food Award.

Activities

Auden House offers a huge array of daily activities planned by our dedicated Activities Coordinators.  Activities include bingo, arts & crafts, chair exercises, sing-a-longs and gardening. Entertainment from visiting performers is arranged regularly and a selection of large print books is on hand in our ever-growing library. All residents are encouraged to join in our group activities, but one-on-one activities are also offered, such as reminiscence sessions, hand massages, hairdressing & manicures. Activities external to Auden House are also arranged. We have an annual trip on a canal barge in Summer which has been specially adapted for wheelchair access and is ideal for our party. We also join a Christmas party at Harry Ramsden’s each year which is great fun for those involved. In addition, residents participate in external drama projects run by Manchester Camerata and also benefit from in-house musical sessions from time to time.
